Mauquoy is making a Medal Route for the city of Gent

Trade route of Middle Ages

Under the name 'Portico', the city of Gent will install a Medal Route while reconstructing the center of Gent (Korenmarkt, Belfortstraat, and Emile Braunplein).

Portico is a european collaboration project between Chester, Cologne, Utrecht and Gent. Their main goal is visualising in an innovating way the cultural heritage of the participating cities. The medal route will show the trade route of the Middle Ages between Bruges and Cologne which crossed the heart of Gent.

In total 1000 different medals

The medals will be regrouped in clusters. Each cluster will tell a story of local history and heritage. At the end the route will show 1000 medals which will be integrated in the streets and places of Gent. This project has an unique touch because every medal will have a different image and therefore will be unique.

Mauquoy takes care of graphic design and engraving of the medals

We are proud to announce that Mauquoy has been chosen to be the partner of this prestigious project for the graphic design as well as for the engraving of the medals. By order of the contractor D. Stadsbader-Flamand and thanks to a close collaboration with the architect agency Robbrecht & Daem, the architect Marie-José Van Hee and the department City Archeology of Gent, we managed to represent the different, and often very old, pictures the most  truely way possible. More then 125 years of know-how in the world of medals and engraving and machines of high technology have made this possible.

From the beginning of February, you can admire the first medals downtown Gent. At the end of spring, there will be about 220 pieces integrated in the streets.
